Digital Plant is a project that creates new species of plants within cyberspace. The COVID-19 pandemic and the rapid advancement of technology have radically transformed how humans relate not only to one another but also to nonhuman entities, emphasizing the growing importance of a posthuman sensibility.
Building on bio-artist Eduardo Kac’s concept of the Net Ecology—an ecosystem where humans, robots, and genetically modified organisms coexist—this work envisions a new kind of digital ecology. By combining bodily data from performers with plant data captured through 3D scanning, it explores a state of co-evolution through mechanical sound and digital motion.
Through this process, two heterogeneous entities—the human body and the plant—form a relationship, giving birth to a digital organism. Presented as a live performance, the work uses the performer’s physical gestures as instruments, creating a space of communication between the physical and the cyber worlds.
